
Wedgewood Pet Clinic has three veterinarians on staff at the present time. The clinic staff meets daily concerning ongoing patient care, so all are familiar with the status of patients both in the hospital and those animals receiving treatment at home.
Dr. Micheal Benham graduated from the Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. He established the Penn Plaza Veterinary Clinic in 1973, and moved it to the present location at Wedgewood in 1991. Dr. Benham has served on the licensing Board of Veterinary Medicine of Oklahoma, and is a member of the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He supports the community through contributions to Volunteers for Animal Welfare, Free to Live, the Greater Oklahoma Charity Horse Show, and the Boys' Ranch Town. He also supports and coaches youth basketball. His wife, Gwen, is actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the clinic, and she and Dr. Benham have 2 daughters. They enjoy their acreage, shared with horses, dogs, and cats.
Dr. Jim Lee is a 1986 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He began practice at the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Hospital in Oklahoma City, and is still on the staff at that facility as well as at Wedgewood. He has also been involved as an adjunct faculty member at Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma State University, teaching in the areas of anatomy, behavior, pharmacology, and pathology. He has served in numerous capacities of the Central Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, and is a member of the OSU Veterinary Technician Accreditation Committee. He is a member of the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Lee currently is a member of the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, the licensing board for veterinarians. He also served as an onsite veterinarian requested by the FBI to assist in care of search and rescue dogs working at the site of the 1995 Murrah Building bombing. Dr. Lee and his wife, Tina, currently have 5 dogs and 1 cat.
Dr. Aaron Heintz is a 2005 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a memeber of the American and Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Associations, and is the 2005 recipient of OSU's Dr. William F. Irwin Award for small animal surgery. Dr. Heintz has worked in the field of veterinary medicine as an assistant in some form or fashion for thirteen years prior to fulfilling his goal of becoming a veterinarian. Since his marriage to Kara, his wife, in May of 2000, Dr. Heintz has lived in Oklahoma. They are the proud parents of Haskell, born on October 15th, 2005, and Shotzie, their Miniature Schnauzer, born in June of 2000. Dr. Heintz's hobbies include spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and anything else that includes enjoying the weather outside. Dr. Heintz is proud to be the newest doctor at Wedgewood Pet Clinic and looks forward to his future as a veterinarian in Oklahoma.
